Frequently asked questions

What does inflation do to my money?

It makes the same money buy less every year. At 6.5% a year, what costs ₹1,00,000 today will cost ₹1,87,714 in 10 years, and ₹3,52,365 in 20 years.

How much have prices really gone up in India?

A lot. What cost ₹1,00,000 in 2005 cost about ₹3,52,921 in 2025 — prices rose 253% in total, about 6.5% a year.

Why does this matter for my savings?

If your savings earn less than inflation, they lose buying power even while the number grows. A savings account at 4% while prices rise 6.5% a year means your money buys less every year.

Which inflation figures are used?

For past years, India's consumer price inflation from the World Bank (indicator FP.CPI.TOTL.ZG), 1992 to 2025. For the future, the rate you choose — by default India's average since 1992.
