At 60 you are on track, with spare

₹31.93 lakh

Your money lasts until 85.

Why these numbers?
  • Each month’s expenses rise with inflation and come out of savings that keep earning 11.5% a year.
  • Working 2 more years gives savings longer to grow and fewer years to pay for.
  • SCSS pays 8.2% every quarter, set by the government.

Frequently asked questions

How much money do I need to retire?

Enough to pay your expenses, rising with prices, until the age you plan for. With ₹60,000 a month of expenses today, retiring at 60 and planning to 85, you need about ₹5.03 crore on the day you retire.

Why does inflation matter so much?

At 6.5% a year, ₹60,000 a month today becomes ₹2,89,662 a month by 60, and it keeps rising after you retire. A plan that ignores this runs short.

What if my savings fall short?

Save more, start a step-up, or work longer. In the example, retiring 2 years later improves the picture by ₹1.2 crore.

Is SCSS good for retirement income?

The Senior Citizens Savings Scheme pays 8.2% a year every quarter, backed by the government, on up to ₹30 lakh per person for 5 years (it can be extended). It suits the part of your savings you need as steady income.

Should I count EPF and NPS?

Yes. Add today’s EPF, PPF, NPS and other retirement savings to “Savings for retirement today”, and your monthly PF and NPS contributions to the monthly saving.
